Flooring Renovation in Ashford

Renovating floors may require a wide range of tasks, from cleaning and maintenance, repairing existing flooring or even completely removing and replacing floors. The type of restoration work will be based upon the variety of the existing floor. In older buildings with period floors like flagstone, quarry tile or parquet, renovation is likely to include repair and cleaning of the present floor as it will likely be an attractive attribute of the home. In modern properties with carpet or hardwood flooring, renovation is more likely to require completely replacing the current flooring, either like for like employing a similar material, or by changing from one material to another. For wooden flooring, the approach of restoration commonly consists of sanding the top layer of hardwood down, cleaning and then revarnishing or staining. Tile floors can be cleaned and any broken or damaged tiles replaced, followed by regrouting or resealing. For carpets, maintenance can usually only extend to cleaning of the pile, any further problems or damage will typically require replacing the carpet. Professional floor renovation companies can advise you of the best solution to breathe new life into tired flooring or bring old floors up to a high standard. Specialist tools may also be essential for repairing or replacing flooring.

Ashford

Ashford is a town in Kent, England. It lies on the River Great Stour at the south of the North Downs which is about 61 miles south east of central London. At the time of the 2011 census, the population was 74,204. Ashford gets its name from an Old English word which meant a ford near a clump of ash trees.

Ashford has been a market town since the 13th century, and a regular market still takes place there. It has been a communication hub for many years and stands at the centre of five railway lines which have been there since the 19th century. The town grew as the construction of the railways contributed to employment. The international passenger station is now a European communications centre, and new lines run between London at the Channel Tunnel via HS 1.

The town has been in plans for expansion since the 1960s. A shopping centre, named County Square, was opened in the late 1980s as an extension and redevelopment of the Tufton Centre. The award winning Ashford Designer Outlet was built in 2000. The Templer Barracks at Repton Park have also been redeveloped.

A popular local landmark is St Mary's Church, which was built in the 13th century and expanded in the 15th. The church not only host worship but also entertainment. Ashford also has two grammar schools, named the Norton Knatchbull School, established in the 17th century, and the Highworth Grammar School for Girls, established in 1904.

How to repair wooden flooring

One the several of the several benefits that comes with having a wooden floor installed is the fact that damaged surfaces can be repaired without the need to replace the floor in the whole room. This is not applicable to many other types of flooring whereby even the littlest damages are not reparable. Depending on the severity and depth of the wooden flooring damage, there are a number of techniques you can incorporate to repair the affected area. For examples, minor damages will not require as much effort as corner curling or cupping. In certain cases where the job requires no expertise, the repair process can be done by any individual with no prior experience in similar works. However, in other cases, when the wooden flooring has suffered a major damage, it’s advisable to call for a professional help.

First of all, it’s quite important to always watch out and prevent any sort of damages as this is way better than spending time trying to have the damaged surface repaired. One of the ways to prevent damages is by always lifting furniture rather than just dragging it across the floor when you need to move it. However, accidents are always meant to happen. In the case of damaged wooden flooring, here are some repair solutions.

When there are small scratches on your flooring, simply add a new coating of sealer to your floor (if the floor has already been oiled, just add another layer of oil). For lacquered floors, make use of a lacquer repair pen to help get rid of the scratches. In addition, there are some DIY shops offering wax filler sticks which can be used to hide or remove both light and medium scratches on wooden flooring.
