Langport is a village as well as civil parish in Somerset, England, 5 miles (8.0 kilometres) west of Somerton in the South Somerset district. The parish (which covers only part of the community) has a population of 1,081. Langport is contiguous with Huish Episcopi, a different church that consists of much of the town's borders. Langport rests on the east bank of the River Parrett, below the point where that river is joined by the River Yeo (Ivel). There is a causeway across the moor and also an essential bridge over the river. Below Langport the Parrett is tidal. The rivers flow from the southerly hills via Thorney Moor and Kings Moor, with a space in between the upland areas around Somerton and Curry Rivel, onto the Somerset Levels whereby it moves past Bridgwater to the Bristol Channel. Throughout the winter the low-lying locations around Langport are in some cases swamped. The town falls within the Non-metropolitan area of South Somerset, which was based on 1 April 1974 under the City Government Act 1972, having previously become part of Langport Rural Area. The district council is in charge of neighborhood planning and also structure control, regional roads, council housing, ecological health, markets and also fairs, refuse collection as well as recycling, cemeteries and also crematoria, recreation solutions, parks, and also tourism.
