Eyemouth

Eyemouth is a village and civil parish in Berwickshire, in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland. It is 2 miles (3.2 kilometres) eastern of the main north-south A1 road as well as simply 8 miles (13 kilometres) north of Berwick-upon-Tweed. It has a population of about 3,420 people (2004 ). The town's name comes from its place at the mouth of the Eye Water. The Berwickshire coastline includes high cliffs over deep clear water with sandy coves as well as stunning harbours. An angling port, Eyemouth holds a yearly Herring Queen Festival. Notable structures in the town include Gunsgreen House and also a cemetery watch-house developed to stand guard versus the Resurrectionists (body snatchers). Most of the features of a conventional fishing village are maintained in the slim streets as well as 'vennels', giving shelter from the sea as well as fit to the smuggling custom of old. Eyemouth is not far from the small villages of Ayton, Reston, St. Abbs, Coldingham and Burnmouth. The shore uses opportunities for birdwatching, strolling, fishing and also diving. Lodging includes a number of resorts, B&B s as well as a holiday park. The geology of the area shows evidence of folding that led James Hutton to announce that the surface of the planet had changed drastically over the ages.
