Bideford

Bideford is a historic port town that's on the estuary of the River Torridge in North Devon, located in the southwest of England. The town's name translates as 'by the ford', with records demonstrating that prior to the development of a bridge, there was a ford at Bideford where the River Torridge is estuarine. During low tide, it is feasible, although not advisable, to cross the river by wading on foot. Bideford currently functions as the central town of the Torridge local government district. As per the 2011 Census, the town has a population of around 17,000. Bideford is extensively famous for being the place through which the American GIs landed in 1942 during World War Two. Originally located there to work in radar stations in North Devon, rising numbers of troops came over during the course of the war. Bideford is renowned for its New Year's Eve celebrations. This consists of thousands of people from nearby towns and villages arriving in fancy dress costumes congregating on the quay for a party as well as a firework show. Included in the event are several local musicians. The town has a lengthy history of local New Year's Eve celebrations. A custom from 1605 was for citizens to try to run across Bideford's bridge in the time taken for the bells of St. Mary's parish church to chime at midnight. In the same year, the mayor set up a trust fund to raise money to purchase food for the poor and elderly who applied at the Mayor's Parlour. This still happens and takes place on New Year's Day. For all of your house improvements, be sure that you utilise trusted experts in Bideford to ensure that you get a fantastic quality service.

It’s normal to think that having a new gravel laid is a herculean task but when the necessary tools and materials are within your reach then it’s a fair simple task for the competent DIYer. So if you’re about to lay your new gravel driveway option of your home and wondering how deep to dig the driveway, then you’ve come to the right place. There are times, however, that the best option would be to hire a reliable and trustworthy professional who can guarantee the best results while also helping you save time and additional expenses which could result from costly mistakes. However, in this guide, we offer some handy tips on the appropriate depth of a gravel driveway in order to put you on the right path from the start. So let’s take a closer look!

Normally, it’s required to lay a a 10 mm aggregate on a depth which should be within the range of 30 mm to 40 mm. However in the case of driveway, this structure must be at least 50mm deep. Therefore, the depth of your driveway will mostly be determined by the size of the aggregate you opt for as well as how you intend to use the surface.

It does a great job at giving a property a more natural look than other driveway surfacing options which includes concrete, block paving or tarmac.

Are you planning to install a gravel on your driveway? If yes, then you’ll most likely be interested to know exactly how much it’s going to cost. Well, to get started you’ll have to decide whether you’ll be doing this yourself or perhaps you’d be hiring a specialist. The project could be much more effective if you decide to tackle it on your own as you’re only going to be worried about the paying for the materials without any labour costs. However, installing a driveway is in no way an easy task even for the competent and more experienced DIYers. So if you choose to carry out the project on your own, you should also get ready for a longer completion time than it would have been if you hired a tradesman which is usually around 48 hours. how to keep gravel in place on driveway?

It’s always a good idea to be sure of how you’re going to keep the annoying gravel spillage off your driveway way before its installation, however, if you’ve already done so, it’s better late than never. We all know how great a gravel driveway can look when the gravels manage to stay in place. When gravel is used on a driveway it provides a great transition from the normal hardness of a driveway to the organic softness of the lawn which doesn’t retain water or gush runoff during irrigation or rainfall. Unfortunately, the sad thing here is gravel don’t just like to stay put. Before long, if ignored, you’d realize your hard surfaces will almost be covered with gravel coming in from the side. So what’s the solution to this rather annoying situation?

Here, we’ll show you just how you can keep your gravel in place in your driveway. Let’s take a look!

The solution here is simple - simply make use of Pour On. With Pour On, you won’t have to think about of clearing out your gravel features to put an end to the issue of loose rocks spilling on your hard surfaces. With Pour On, you’ll be able to hold your gravel in place for several years to come. And even more importantly, it’s able to achieve this objective while also protecting the integrity the existing permeability of your driveway. What’s more? It also goes a long way to retain the natural look provided by your gravel driveway which makes it the perfect solution to the annoying gravel spillage issues.

How do I stop weeds growing in my gravel driveway?

Weeds growing on your gravel can look unsightly, so it’s worth taking steps to stop them sprouting up.

When you lay your driveway, make sure you use a weed proof membrane. This will help to stop most growth, although it won’t totally prevent weeds occurring. For any other growth, dig the weed out or use a weed killer.
