Wick
Wick is a community as well as royal burgh in Caithness, in the much north of Scotland. The community straddles the River Wick and extends along both sides of Wick Bay. Wick Area had a population of 6,954 at the time of the 2011 census, a decline of 3.8% from 2001. Pulteneytown, which was established on the south side of the river by the British Fisheries Society throughout the 19th century, was formally combined into the burgh in 1902. The town is on the main road (the A99-- A9 road) linking John o' Groats with southern Britain. The Far North train line links Wick train station with southern Scotland and also with Thurso, the other burgh of Caithness. Wick Airport terminal gets on Wick's northern outskirts. The flight terminal has two useful paths. A third neglects. The main offices of The John O'Groat Journal as well as The Caithness Carrier are located in Wick, as are Caithness General Hospital (run by NHS Highland), the Wick Carnegie Collection and regional workplaces of the Highland Council.
