The town likewise has a honored music heritage as well as is also house to Burry Port Opera, Male Choir and Burry Port Town Band. Burry Port lies 5 miles west of Llanelli town centre, but is in fact still incorporated by Llanelli Town. It sits at the mouth of the Loughor tidewater, looking southern towards the attractive Gower peninsula. West of the town's coastline is Pembrey Burrows, a big area of burrow as well as marshland which traditionally occupied numerous square miles of land, much of which has later been recovered. To the north of the community is capital Mynydd Pembrey, or Pembrey Mountain. Additional north exist the Gwendraeth Valleys. The Gwendraeth Fawr runs north easterly from Kidwelly for about twelve miles (19 kilometres). The land around the valley itself has big amounts of coal as well as limestone. The Gwendraeth Fawr moves the length of the valley and joins its sister river the Gwendraeth Fach west of Kidwelly prior to flowing into Carmarthen Bay.
