Chatteris is a civil parish and also among the four market communities in the Fenland area of Cambridgeshire, England, located in The Fens in between Huntingdon, March as well as Ely. The town remains in the North East Cambridgeshire parliamentary constituency. The parish of Chatteris is big, covering 6,099 hectares, as well as for much of its history was an increased island in the low-lying marsh of the Fens. Discussed in the Domesday Book of 1086, the community has evidence of settlement from the Neolithic duration. After several fires in the 18th as well as 19th centuries, most of the town's housing dates from the late Victorian period onwards, with the tower of the parish church the only middle ages structure remaining. Complying with the draining pipes of the Fens, starting in the 17th century and also completed in the 19th century, the community's economy has been based on farming as well as associated sector. As a result of its proximity to Cambridge, Huntingdon and Peterborough, the community has become a commuter town. The town had a population of 10,453 at the time of the UK Census 2011.
