Caernarfon

Caernarfon is a royal town, community, and port in Gwynedd, Wales, with a population of about 10,000. It is located on the A487 road, around the eastern shore of the Menai Strait, opposite the Isle of Anglesey. Bangor is 8.6 miles (13.8 km) to the north east, whilst Snowdonia borders Caernarfon towards the east and south-east. Carnarvon and Caernarvon are English versions of the name which were superseded in 1926 and 1974, respectively. The villages of Bontnewydd and Caeathro are close by. Rich natural resources around the Menai Straits enabled humans to settle in prehistoric Britain. The Ordovices, a Celtic tribe, lived in the location during the period generally known as Roman Britain. The Roman fort Segontium was established around AD 80 to control the Ordovices during the Roman conquest of Britain. The Romans controlled the region till Roman rule ended in Britain in 382, and after that Caernarfon became part of the Kingdom of Gwynedd. In the late 11th century, William the Conqueror ordered the building of a motte-and-bailey castle at Caernarfon as a part of the Norman invasion of Wales. He was unsuccessful, and Wales remained independent until about 1283. During the thirteenth century, Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, ruler of Gwynedd, refused to pay homage to Edward I of England, prompting the English conquest of Gwynedd. This was followed by the construction of Caernarfon Castle, one of the largest and most imposing fortifications constructed by the English in Wales. The city has developed into an important tourist centre and seat of Gwynedd Council, with a busy harbour and marina. Caernarfon has expanded beyond its medieval walls and experienced heavy suburbanisation. Its population contains the largest percentage of Welsh-speaking citizens anywhere in Wales. The castle and town walls are part of a World Heritage Site described as the Castles and Town Walls of King Edward in Gwynedd. For all your home improvement projects, make sure that you pick reputable pros in Caernarfon to make sure that you get a great quality service at a great price.

FAQs

How can I get rid of weeds coming through my paving?

You should pull up and remove weeds by hand as and when they appear. If it is a regular problem, you might need to reseal the paving. In extreme cases, the sub layer itself may need to be re-laid. You can use weed killer, however some paving can be discoloured by stronger weed killers.

How to clean block paving without a pressure washer?

While many professionals will recommend a pressure washer to clean block paving, it’s possible to clean your paving without one – just scrub the affected areas with a firm bristled brush and use plenty of soap. Then, rinse off the area with clean water.

How to clean paving slabs?

There are several effective ways to clean paving slabs. It’s important to pick a method that suits you and your paving material.

Whatever method you use, start by removing all weeds and loose debris from your paving. Then, if you have a pressure washer, you can simply use this to clean away any dirt.

If you don’t have a pressure washer, you can try using soapy water or watered-down bleach. If you use soapy water, mix a mild detergent like washing up liquid with warm water. Then pour it onto your paving, work it in with a brush and rinse it off with clean water.

If you use bleach, first make sure that the water won’t drain off onto any plant life, as this can kill it. You should also avoid using bleach on concrete slabs, as it will cause them to fade. Mix one-part bleach with five-parts water, pour it onto your paving and work it in with a brush. Then leave it for 15 minutes and rinse it off with clean water.

How to clean a concrete driveway with bleach?

If your concrete driveway’s looking grubby, it’s best to try cleaning it with water and a brush, or a mild detergent. However, if this doesn’t work, it can be worth trying bleach.

Dilute your bleach down to 50% bleach and 50% water, and apply it to your driveway. Leave it for 10 minutes, then scrub it using gloves and a stiff brush. Finish by rinsing your driveway off with clean water.

It’s important to remember that bleach can stain certain surfaces and kill plants. So, if you’re concerned about materials and boarders around your driveway, it might be best to use a different type of detergent, like floor cleaner or degreaser.
