Blaydon-on-tyne

The town of Blaydon-on-Tyne is situated in the North East of England in the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead. It was historically in County Durham. Referring to the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent resident population of 15,000, which is a large increase from the about 14,500 people noted in the 2001 Census. Blaydon experienced an intensive programme of housing regeneration between 2009 and 2014. This included the improvement of new developments at High View close to the Winlaton-Blaydon border, by the riverside on the site of the former Stella South power station, and at Axwell Gardens, close to the already current Axwell Park estate. Historically, the powerhouse of the Industrial Revolution in Gateshead, Blaydon's traditional business is coal mining. Due to the decrease of mining in the 1950s and 1960s, Blaydon now boasts a much more diverse set of industries. The majority of the town's residents are involved in engineering and manufacturing, as well as having a small amount of commuting professionals. Many businesses work in the offices in Blaydon Haughs, referred to as 'The Spike', which is on the banks of the River Tyne. There are many shopping opportunities for residents in Blaydon's shopping centre, called the precinct. A brutalist construction from the 1970s, it is made up of almost all of the town's significant shops, which are generally branches of commercial chain retailers, along with food and grocery outlets. The town is also home to a quantity of landmarks. Stella Hall, dating back to 1143 when there was a nunnery on the site, is a listed building, and Anxwell Hall, built in 1761, is set to undergo conversion into residential apartments. For all of your residence improvement projects, make sure that you work with reliable professionals in Blaydon-on-Tyne to ensure you get a top quality service.

FAQs

How to clean a concrete driveway with bleach?

If your concrete driveway’s looking grubby, it’s best to try cleaning it with water and a brush, or a mild detergent. However, if this doesn’t work, it can be worth trying bleach.

Dilute your bleach down to 50% bleach and 50% water, and apply it to your driveway. Leave it for 10 minutes, then scrub it using gloves and a stiff brush. Finish by rinsing your driveway off with clean water.

It’s important to remember that bleach can stain certain surfaces and kill plants. So, if you’re concerned about materials and boarders around your driveway, it might be best to use a different type of detergent, like floor cleaner or degreaser.

How to remove oil from block paving?

Removing oil from block paving can be tricky, and a professional clean and re-point is often the best option. However, for small stains, especially recent ones, it’s worth attempting to clean it yourself. To do this, you can purchase oil remover or driveway cleaning solutions – although be careful, as some may stain or mark certain kinds of paving stones. In general, stay away from acid based cleaners.

How to get rid of weeds in block paving?

There’s no doubt that weeds coming through your block paving can be unsightly and annoying. But, it’s relatively easy to get rid of weeds that are growing in the joints between your block paving. To start, pull out the larger weeds, and then you can use a pressure washer or firm bristled brush to remove the smaller weeds and debris from the joints in your block paving. It’s best to then refill the joints with additional sand to ensure your block paving remains level. Regularly brushing your block paving and treating with weed killer will help to prevent the weeds from reoccurring.

Will my patio withstand heavy rain?

Patios use durable and hard wearing materials which will be able to withstand extreme weather. It’s important to consider the drainage of your patio, as heavy rain will need to drain away to an area that can absorb the water. A professional will be able to design and lay a patio to do this.
