Block Paving in Gainsborough

Block paving can look great as a driveway. It is an elegant and functional solution to your driveway and can give your home great kerb appeal. Whether you want a classic herringbone design or something a little different, there are many block paving materials and possibilities available to you. The bricks found in block paving are manufactured from clay commonly, but some are made up of different composite materials. Among the main advantages to block paving is that if a few of the bricks get broken over time, they can certainly be replaced. It also means that it is easier to carry out work under the top of paving without leaving a mark. The most common pattern that driveway companies lay is the herringbone pattern because it has the strongest interlock, which makes it a great choice for driveways. The tradesperson creates the herringbone design by placing the blocks at 45 degrees or 90 degrees to the perpendicular. Both types of herringbone pattern create an elegant and interesting look for your driveway that will make your home look fantastic to buyers. Fill out our online form to speak to up to 4 driveway companies who can provide you with a quote for a block-paved driveway.

Gainsborough

Gainsborough is a town in the West Lindsey region in the English county of Lincolnshire. In accordance with the 2011 census, it has a population of 18508. It can be found 18 miles north west from the city and county town of Lincoln, and the River Trent passes through the town. The civil parish spreads southwards over rural land to Lea and passes along the edge of Lea Wood. The town is located on the meeting point of the A631, the A156 and A159. Aiming to link the A15 at Caenby Corner, Gainsborough's dual carriageway, called 'Thorndike Way', is named after Dame Sybil Thorndike, an actress born in the town in 1855. Gainsborough was an established and substantial port with trade to Hull, and was the most inland port in England, being situated 55 miles from the North Sea. The town also has a strong history of industry. In particular, the town was the production base of Marshall, Sons and Co., which served as an essential boiler manufacturer established by William Marshall in 1848. The business was positioned at Britannia Ironworks, a site of 16 acres and the largest in Europe when it was first built. Their goods were transported on a global scale up until its closure in the 1980s. The site has subsequently been divided in between a number of companies, offering occupants a diverse range of regional and nationwide shops. Numerous landmarks have been formally recognised over the years. Whitton's Mill flats won the Royal Town Planning Institute award for the East Midlands, and Marshall's Yard gained an award for regeneration. For all of your home upgrades, make sure to make use of trusted experts in Gainsborough to make certain of quality.

FAQs

how much to block pave a drive?

One thing you should know about block paving a drive is that it can be very expensive depending on a number of factors such as the materials to be incorporated, block paving pattern, labour cost as well as the size of the drive in question. However, before you get started it’s always a good idea to obtain multiple quotes to compare the prices and select the most reasonable quote. Here, we’ve provided a breakdown of the block paving cost to ensure that you’ll not get ripped off.

There are three main types of block paving which includes clay blocks, concrete blocks as well as natural stone. If you were to go for complex block paving patterns and extras such as drainage solutions and edging, you may have to pay a significantly higher price. The size of your drive is also a major determinant of your block paving cost. What’s more? The materials you need as well as the contractors you select will all play a key role in the final cost of block paving your drive.

The material cost for the three types of block paving includes: Clay block £70 to £100 per m2, concrete blocks £20 to £60 per m2 and natural stone £50 to £105 per m2. To calculate your total material cost, you’ll need to determine the size of your drive.

The cost of labour for installing block paving is usually within the range of £50 to £100 per square metre. In certain cases, you may also have some waste removal needs. If you’re going to hire a specialist that’ll take a day or two of labour to get the job done, it’ll cost about £150 to £200 per day.

Other additional block paving costs include: hardcore £300, blocks and edgings £1,700, sharp sand £250. kiln-dried sand £250 and skip hire £500.

When's the best time to get driveway work done?

Driveway work is usually done in the warmer half of the year. This is partly to avoid bad weather. If you want to get ahead and avoid waiting for a contractor to be free, you should try getting in touch with a professional in the early spring so a date can be booked for install as soon as practically possible.

What materials can I use to surface my driveway?

The most commonly used driveway surfacing materials are gravel, asphalt, concrete and paving - which can be block, slabbed or patten imprinted. Take a look at our product information pages to help you decide which one to use and which one will look best for your driveway.

Do I need to be at home when my driveway is being worked on?

Your contractor should have access to your driveway and a power source. If they have these things, you don’t need to be there while they’re working on your driveway. However, it’s worth being around if you can so you can clarify details and answer any questions.
