Block Paving in Brierley Hill

Block paving can look good as a driveway. It really is a stylish and functional solution to your driveway and will give your home great kerb appeal. Whether you want a classic herringbone design or something a little different, there are plenty of block paving materials and options available to you. The bricks found in block paving are manufactured from clay commonly, but some are made up of different composite materials. One of the main advantages to block paving is that if some of the bricks get broken over time, they can be replaced easily. In addition, it means that it is easier to perform work under the surface of the paving without leaving a mark. The most frequent pattern that driveway companies lay is the herringbone pattern because it has the strongest interlock, which makes it a great choice for driveways. The tradesperson creates the herringbone pattern by placing the blocks at 45 degrees or 90 degrees to the perpendicular. Both types of herringbone design create a stylish and appealing look for your driveway that can make your home look fantastic to potential owners. Fill out our online form to speak to up to 4 driveway companies who can provide you with a quote for a block-paved driveway.

Brierley Hill

Brierley Hill is a little town and electoral ward of the Dudley Metropolitan Borough within the West Midlands of England. It is positioned approximately 2.5 miles to the south of central Dudley and 2 miles to the north of Stourbridge. Brierley Hill was traditionally in Staffordshire, but is now part of the West Midlands metropolitan county since its creation in 1974. A part of the Black Country, and inside a heavily industrialised area of the Dudley Borough, it features a population of roughly 14,000 inhabitants, according to the 2011 census. Largely a product of the Industrial Revolution, Brierley Hill boasts a fairly modern history, with the first written records of the town going back to the 17th century. Initially created as a settlement within the woodland of Pensnett Chase, it began to expand rapidly following the chase's enclosure in 1748, and was first displayed on a map in 1785 after the mapping of the Stourbridge Canal. The town is best famous for glass and steel production, although the business has declined considerably since the 1970s. On the list of the largest factories within the area was the Round Oak Steelworks, which was closed down and redeveloped in the 1980s to be transformed into the Merry Hill Shopping Centre. The Merry Hill Shopping Centre is positioned immediately east of Brierley Hill. One of the biggest shopping centres in the country, it was constructed between 1985 and 1989 on the grounds of Merry Hill Farm, the final functioning urban farm inside the West Midlands. Since 2008, Brierley Hill, including the nearby Waterfront Business Park and Merry Hill Shopping Centre, has been designated as the Strategic Town Centre of the Dudley Borough, with the aim to create a brand new town centre for the borough. For all of your home improvement tasks, make certain that you pick reputable specialists in Brierley Hill to make sure that you get the top quality service.

• Demarcate The Walkway

To get started, you have to determine how and where you want your walkway to be while also determining the thickness of the paver. Ensure to choose the less sloppy area and utilize landscape paint to mark the area visibly.

• Prepare The Ground

Clear out all forms of dirts, roots, rocks and other debris on the soil. Once done, proceed to cutting the sods to the required length and put them somewhere close.

• Make Boundaries

There’s a need for landscape borders. Here, it’ll be easier to use plastics as boundaries for your lawn’s edges. Install them on the sides that have already been cut

• Apply A Level Of Gravel

Obtain the correct size of gravel and spread them evenly over the area to ensure a firm foundation for the pavers is formed. Makes sure that the rocks is at a minimum of 2 inches deep into the soil.

can you lay block paving on top of concrete?

Can You Lay Block Paving On Top Of Concrete?

The replacement or improvement of your driveway is unarguably one of the most expensive projects you can undertake in the exterior of your home. When done by a true professional the results can be impressive and visually appealing, however you’d have to pay huge bucks to have this done. This is exactly the situation with block paving as it is not only time consuming, but also a lot more expensive when compared to other types of driveway.

A large chuck of this cost is associated with the removal of the existing driveway. So assuming your old driveway is concrete, can you simply pave over the existing concrete? If yes, will it save you money? The simple and short answer is yes. It’s in fact advisable to pave over concrete as this will not only add around 20% to your home’s value, but also make it look a lot more attractive and pleasing to the eye.

However, there are some problems associated with block paving over concrete. It may be better to remove the concrete in situations whereby the base is substandard. For instance, if the ground underneath the concrete is failing, there’ll most definitely be problems.

Also, there’ll be some issues with settling (not even the cracks). If your concrete is dropping little amounts every year, these can affect the blocks and ultimately lead to dropping of some sections of the block paving in such a way that they’ll no longer be on the same level as the other blocks. Giving a rise to the possibility of drainage issues, tripping hazard and lots more.

Other issues that may crop up can be triggered as a result of using the wrong size block height as well as totally ignoring or overlooking the undulations of the concrete.

Basically, sealing of block paving is all about prevention of weed growth in the area by total weed removal, putting of sand between the block paving joints and sealing with a good quality sealant. This is a task that’s best left for a reliable professional to guarantee the best results especially if you lack proper training and experience. This guide will give a good insight into the process.

• Leave the washed area to dry.

l Sand The Joints

• Check the weather forecast to ensure there’s about 24 to 48 hours of dryness as its important for both sand and sealant to do a perfect job.

• Put sand between the gaps and push it down with your small brush until its levelled.

lSeal The Gaps

• The sealing process should be done immediately and sanding.
