Longniddry
Longniddry is a town in East Lothian, Scotland, with a population of 2,613 (2001 census). The Scottish Female's Rural Institute was founded below in 1917. Longniddry is largely a dorm town for commuters, with excellent transportation web links by road and rail (Longniddry railway station gets on the North Berwick Line) to the capital. The town has a number of local, area based resources including regional shops and Longniddry Community Centre, which also houses the collection. Near to the collection is the Scout Hall used by the Longniddry Scout Group. The golf course hosted the Carling-Caledonian Tournament in 1961. Like many coastal communities in East Lothian, Longniddry has a sandy coastline close to the golf links. This stretch of local shoreline is lined with dunes and also referred to as Longniddry Bents.
