Filey
Filey is a town and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the East Riding of Yorkshire, it is part of the district of Scarborough between Scarborough and also Bridlington on the North Sea coast. Although it was a fishing village, it has a huge beach and became a preferred tourist resort. According to the 2011 UK census, Filey parish had a population of 6,981, a specific number being 2001 UK census 6,819. Filey is at the eastern end of the Cleveland Way, a long-distance walkway; it starts at Helmsley and also skirts the North York Moors. It was the 2nd National Trail to be opened up (1969 ). The community goes to the north end of the Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trail which begins at Hessle and crosses the Yorkshire Wolds. Filey is the finishing factor for Great Yorkshire Bike Flight. The 70-mile (110 km) flight begins at Wetherby Racecourse. Filey has a train station on the Yorkshire Shore Line. A 2nd terminal at Filey Holiday Camp railway station to the south of the community offered the previous Butlins vacation camp. The camp has been re-developed into a 600-home holiday housing development, The Bay Filey. It is among the biggest coastal developments of this kind in the UK and the very first houses were completed in 2007.
