The village comprises some 150 houses, spread over a geographical location of around 50 square miles (130 km2), a lot of which is moorland. The Scottish Parliament voted, in 2006, to renew the train, but without a station at Heriot. The School (as of Sept 2016) has 36 pupils. There are numerous area groups operating in the town consisting of drama groups, WRI, a neighborhood choir and a martial arts club.
