Buckhurst Hill

Buckhurst Hill is a well off suburban town in Essex . Situated adjacent to the northern boundary of Greater London, it is a part of the Greater London Urban Area. It's to the west of Essex, roughly 10 miles (17 kilometres) northeast of Charing Cross and near the border with the London Borough of Redbridge. Parts of Epping Forest are in Buckhurst Hill and are intermingled with residential areas. The nearest places are Chigwell, Chingford, Loughton and Woodford. As per the 2011 Census, the town boasts a population of approximately 11,400 inhabitants. The initial historical record of Buckhurst Hill is in 1135, when reference was made to 'La Bocherste', becoming in later years 'Bucket Hill', originally describing a hill which is covered with beech trees. It lay in Epping Forest and included only some scattered homes along the ancient road from Woodford to Loughton. Just before the construction of the railways, Buckhurst Hill was on the stage coach route between London and Cambridge, Norwich, Bury St Edmunds and Dunmow. Traditionally it was a part of the parish of Chigwell; there was no road connecting the 2 communities and to be able to get to church, residents had to cross the River Roding at Woodford. The opening of Buckhurst Hill Station in 1856 saw a quick expansion in the population of the area, with almost 600 new homes being built close to the station by 1871. The town is also home to Buckhurst Hill Football Club and Buckhurst Hill Cricket Club. For all of your property improvement projects, ensure that you use vetted pros in Buckhurst Hill to ensure you get a fantastic quality service at a competitive price.

FAQs

How to resurface a painted concrete patio?

A big benefit to concrete is that you can paint it, making it easy to customise and coordinate with your outside area. However, it’s easy to resurface it too, so if you change your mind or inherit a patio that’s the wrong colour, you don’t need to worry.

Start by cleaning the surface with water and a brush. If you come up against any tough stains, you might need to use a detergent and water mix to remove them. Then you can prepare your resurfacer.

Generally, it’s best to apply resurfacer to a moist surface, although make sure you follow the instructions on the specific product you buy. You’ll need to mix the resurfacer with water, then pour and spread it on with a trowel or brush. You might need to apply multiple coats, and can add texture if you want to make the surface more grippy.

Ensure you protect any expansion joints in your patio with duct tape or weather stripping to stop the resurfacer from filling them in. You can also add a colour agent to your resurfacer before you apply it if you’d like to customise the colour.

How to concrete a driveway?

Whether you’re going to hire a professional to create your concrete driveway or are trying DIY, it’s a good idea to know how to create one.

Firstly, make sure you’ve thought carefully about the size and location of your driveway, and mark it out with pegs and string. Then, you’ll need to dig out the area. Ideally this should be about 20cm deep – 10cm for the subbase and 10cm for the concrete layer. Make sure this is level and compress both the soil and the subbase with a compactor if needed.

Then, you’ll need to assemble the formwork for your driveway. These are pegged out planks of wood or metal that support the edges of your driveway while it’s setting. If your driveway is more than 4 metres long, you’ll also need to create control joints to allow the concrete to settle without cracking.

Once you’ve done this, you’re ready to pour on the concrete. You’ll need to level it and ideally give it some texture so the surface has some grip. Cover your concrete driveway with plastic sheeting when you’re happy with the finish and leave it to set. Make sure you don’t walk or drive on it until it’s completely set – this usually takes 3-10 days. Then, you can remove the framework and enjoy your new driveway.

How to seal cracks in a concrete driveway?

Cracks on your concrete driveway can look scruffy and unsightly. They can also lead to further damage, as moisture can get into the cracks and make them worse. So, it’s important to seal the cracks as soon as you can.

Start by cleaning the area and removing any loose materials. This will help any new materials you introduce to bond with your existing driveway. Then use concrete caulking or sealer to fill in the cracks. You’ll need to use a trowel to push the filler firmly into the crack.

Once you’ve filled in the crack, make sure you consult the product instructions and leave it for the amount of time specified before using your concrete driveway again.

What materials do patios come in?

Patios can be made from brick, natural stone or paving stones or slabs. These materials come in a huge range of colours, sizes and effects, so your patio can perfectly complement your garden space. Have a look for yourself or get a paver in to show you and bring samples.
