Broadstone

Broadstone is a town and suburb of Poole in Dorset, England. It's positioned roughly 3 miles (4.8 kilometres) from Hamworthy railway station and 7 miles (11 km) from Bournemouth International Airport. Since 1840, it has expanded from a small farm to a suburb. In 1840, 'Broadstone Farm' was established, and a railway line bypassed it in 1847. Its first church was built in 1853, which later became the Scout hall. The initial railway station was built in 1872 and named 'New Poole Junction' and, following a number of name revisions, became "Broadstone" in 1890. Broadstone First School originated as a Dame school, founded in 1871. At the beginning of the twentieth century, lavender oil started being made in the town. This came to a stop in 1935 when the factory burnt down, but a lot of lavender can still be found inside the area. Substantial growth of the town has since occurred, especially with the construction of the Pine Springs housing estate along with the opening of extra schools to service the growth in population. Based on the 2011 Census, the town boasts a resident population of about 10,303, which has increased slightly from the 10,256 people measured in the 2001 Census. Centred on the main road (the B3074), 'The Broadway' is a busy hub of shops, churches, schools and housing. The shops include both local and national chain retailers, together with cafes and restaurants. Broadstone is well known for its large recreation fields and heathland park, plus an annual Christmas parade and lights. The 24 acres that Broadstone Heath possesses are some of the original heathland which covered the Poole Basin. For all your house improvement work, be sure that you work with trusted experts in Broadstone to ensure you get the top quality service.

    FAQs

How to resurface a painted concrete patio?

A big benefit to concrete is that you can paint it, making it easy to customise and coordinate with your outside area. However, it’s easy to resurface it too, so if you change your mind or inherit a patio that’s the wrong colour, you don’t need to worry.

Start by cleaning the surface with water and a brush. If you come up against any tough stains, you might need to use a detergent and water mix to remove them. Then you can prepare your resurfacer.

Generally, it’s best to apply resurfacer to a moist surface, although make sure you follow the instructions on the specific product you buy. You’ll need to mix the resurfacer with water, then pour and spread it on with a trowel or brush. You might need to apply multiple coats, and can add texture if you want to make the surface more grippy.

Ensure you protect any expansion joints in your patio with duct tape or weather stripping to stop the resurfacer from filling them in. You can also add a colour agent to your resurfacer before you apply it if you’d like to customise the colour.

How to seal cracks in a concrete driveway?

Cracks on your concrete driveway can look scruffy and unsightly. They can also lead to further damage, as moisture can get into the cracks and make them worse. So, it’s important to seal the cracks as soon as you can.

Start by cleaning the area and removing any loose materials. This will help any new materials you introduce to bond with your existing driveway. Then use concrete caulking or sealer to fill in the cracks. You’ll need to use a trowel to push the filler firmly into the crack.

Once you’ve filled in the crack, make sure you consult the product instructions and leave it for the amount of time specified before using your concrete driveway again.

My garden is sloped, can I install a patio?

Patios are suitable for many gardens. If you do not have a flat area already, consider having some landscaping work done to create one. If your garden is on a very extreme slope, you could have a multi-layered (terraced) patio with steps between each layer. Ask for advice and get quotes if you're not sure.

Do I need to seal my concrete driveway?

Sealing your driveway isn’t 100% necessary, but it is recommended. It will help keep your driveway in good condition and increase how long it lasts. Sealer should be applied approximately once every 2 years, or when your driveway begins to show signs of deterioration.
