Aberffraw

Aberffraw is a village on the south west coast of the Isle of Anglesey in Wales. It is by the west bank of the River Ffraw, hence its name. In 2011 the community had a population of 620. In the Middle Ages, Aberffraw was the capital of the Kingdom of Gwynedd from 860 AD until 1170. Until the 13th century, the royal palace stayed as the symbolic throne of the Kings of Gwynedd.

There is a lot of history behind Aberffraw. There is a Neolithic burial chamber situated there called Barclodiad y Gawres. The community also has a small island named Cribinau with the 13th century church of Saint Cwfan on top. The church is still used for the occasional wedding and summer services. St Beuno's Church on Aberffraw itself was built in the 12th century and is a Grade II* listed building.

Bae Trecastle, or Cable Bay, is on the Anglesey Coastal Path and its beach was awarded the Blue Flag rural beach award in 2005. It is well-known to holidaymakers and residents alike.
