Tywyn
Tywyn, previously spelled Towyn, is a town, community, and also seaside resort on the Cardigan Bay coast of southerly Gwynedd, Wales. It was formerly in the historical region of Merionethshire. It is renowned as the place of the Cadfan Stone, a stone cross with the earliest known instance of composed Welsh, as well as the home of the Talyllyn Railway. At the time of the 2001 census, 40.5% of the population were recorded as Welsh speakers. By the 2011 census this had decreased to 37.5%. These relatively high numbers (offered the town's population density) mirror making use of both Welsh as well as English as the tool of direction in Ysgol Penybryn, the town's primary school. An Estyn evaluation report in 2010 kept in mind that about 11% of the children at the institution originated from homes where Welsh was the main language.
