Lairg
Lairg is a village and also parish in Sutherland, Scotland. It has a population of 891 and also is at the south-eastern end of Loch Shin. Lairg is uncommon in the north Highlands, otherwise distinct, in being a huge settlement that is not on the coast. One of the reasons that Lairg is slightly bigger than various other non-coastal Highland towns is its main location within the county of Sutherland. Having 4 roads which meet in the village, it made use of to be known as "The Crossroads of the North". In the 19th century, it was given with a railway station, on what is currently the Far North Line. This development suggests that the north-west of Sutherland is now less complicated to reach. (The Far North Line links Inverness in the south with Thurso and Wick in the north.).
