Carpets are an extremely popular choice of flooring, in particular in rooms of your home where comfort is crucial, like living rooms and bedrooms. Carpet is the term for a variety of flooring in which a material is either woven or tufted to a backing cloth. Carpets can be purchased in a wide variety of colours and patterns to complement any type of interior decor, as well as in many different types of fibre and piles. A number of the more prevalent types of fibre materials include the man-made fibres polypropylene and nylon, and the natural fibres wool, sisal, or jute. These types of carpet are typically available in short or deep pile and can be produced using a range of production methods, such as twist, Saxony, loop pile, Berber, cut and loop, or velvet. Carpets can come in patterned, plain or striped designs. All of these different kinds of carpet are graded according to their performance and how effectively they are suited to different levels of traffic. They are normally rated to be either medium domestic, meaning bedrooms or studies, heavy domestic, specifying living and dining rooms, and very heavy domestic, suitable for utility rooms or hallways. It is always recommended to install carpet with a layer of underlay underneath, as this will enhance the appearance of the carpet, as well as extending its life and delivering better sound and thermal insulation.

Abbots Leigh

Abbots Leigh is a village in Somerset. It is approximately 3 miles west of the middle of Bristol.

At first, the Middle English name of the village was Lega, and it didn't become Abbots Leigh until the mid-12th century. It has a small population of 799.

The village has an unusual history. The manor house, which is named after the village, housed Charles II when he escaped to France in 1651. He rested with friends of the King's travelling companion and they didn't know the King's identity during his stay. There is a footpath called Monarch's Way that commemorates the King's escape route through Abbots Leigh.

Abbots Leigh has a Gothic church of the Holy Trinity, founded in the 15th century. It was restored and partially rebuilt between 1847-48 after a fire. The tower has six bells, and three of them were cast by William Bilbie in 1781. It is a Grade II listed building under English Heritage.

Leigh Woods encloses Abbots Leigh and is preserved by the National Trust. There are many walk maps published online for guests to enjoy.

If you live in Abbots Leigh and need to carry out some home developments, make sure you compare and contrast quotes from at least three trustworthy businesses before you decide on who to choose.

FAQs

how to measure for carpet?

In order to get a good idea for how much is needed, there’s a need to measure a room for carpet. This is an essential step that should be completed before you shop for brand new carpets to install. Taking the measurement for a basic square or an oblong area is actually relatively easy as long as you put the doorways and entry stairs into consideration. If you’re looking for the best way to measure for carpet, then you’ve come to the right place. In this post, we’re going to take you through room measurement for carpet procedures.

To get started, you’re going to need a measuring tape or a laser distance measurer, a paper and writing instrument or note taking app, a calculator or calculator app as well as a graph paper and a pencil if you wish to draw your layout.

  1. Draw a simple diagram of your home. This doesn’t have to be perfect, but you’d have to ensure the measurements taken are accurate. All that’s needed is a basic drawing featuring all the rooms shown. What’s more? If the room happens to be square or rectangular, you can calculate the area simply by multiplying the width by the length.
  2. Chimneys and recesses. If the room in question features chimneys breasts and recesses, take a measurement of the entire space and ignore them, the flooring or carpet will simply be cut around them.
  3. Calculating the final figure. Take a measurement of each area and put it down in the relevant space on the diagram. Then, simply break the room down to smaller rectangular shapes, determine their area and add them together to obtain the total area of your room. You can make an allowance of up to 5 percent of the total for possible waste.
how to identify carpet types?

If you’re thinking of getting a new carpet, one of the most likely issues you’re going to face is how to identify the types of carpet as there are a plethora of options in the market today. Being able to identify types of carpet can go a long way to make sure you get the most suitable type for your home without having to pay a professional. In this post, we’re going to consider the types of carpets and how you can identify them with ease. Let’s take a look!

When it comes of carpet construction, there are two main types which are defined by how their fibres are attached to their backings. These includes:

  1. Loop pile. These are carpets which the fibres are bent into the small loops. They’re known to be very durable and stain resistant, however they also have a low profile as well as a limited cushioning. The loop pile style encapsulates the following:
  2. Level loop ( also referred to as Berber). This carpet type features short loops which stand up well in traffic areas.
  3. Multi level loop. This implies that the tops of the loops are different in height so as to give the carpet a patterned texture.
  4. Cut pile. These are carpet types that cut the yarn tips to ensure there isn’t any loops. They tend to be denser and softer when compared to loop pile. The types of cut pile includes plush, saxony, textured cut pile, frieze carpet and cable.

On the other hand, carpets are made from different synthetic and natural fibres with varying characteristics. These includes nylon (the most popular as its durable and, wear and stain resistant), olefin ( resistant to moisture, mildew and mold), acrylic (a cheaper alternative to wool) and wool (the premier carpeting option and the only natural fibre used in manufacturing carpets).

Can I use my old carpet underlay under new flooring?

If you’re replacing your carpet with new carpet, you might be able to use your old underlay. This is dependant on how long the existing carpet has been down for and also the condition of the underlay. But if you’re getting wood, laminate or vinyl flooring it’s not suitable. It will put stress on the joints if you use underlay.

what is the best carpet for stairs high traffic?

Do you have a busy household or a thriving business? When you have a carpeted stairs faced with a high traffic on a regular basis, you know its going to take quite a beating over time. As a result, the carpet tends to start looking tired and worn out almost immediately especially if it isn’t designed to withstand such an heavy usage. Hence, the importance of taking an extra little time when deciding on which new stair carpet or stair runners to purchase and install so as to identify those with sturdier properties which are designed to last and also durable. This way, regardless of the amount of traffic it faces on a regular basis, it’ll always stay looking smart and healthy with good maintenance efforts. In this post, we’re going to consider the best carpet for stairs with a high foot traffic. Let’s take a look!

When looking for a good carpet for a heavy traffic stairs, you need to be able to identify hard-wearing stair carpet runners most of which will be clearly labelled as such. These carpets are designed to handle a high level of footfalls primarily because of the way they’re manufactured and materials incorporated. These materials include sisal (one of the best materials to look out for when you’re shopping for a hard-wearing stair carpet) and polypropylene which is an extremely popular material used in hard-wearing carpets due to its incredible features.

Apart from the materials incorporated, a lot of the strength and resilience also comes from the way in which the fibres are constructed and woven. The most reliable types of carpet weaves to look out for when choosing a high traffic stair carpet runner includes flatweave, wilton weave as well as needlepunch.
