Isle Of Benbecula
Benbecula is an island of the Outer Hebrides, in the Atlantic Ocean off the west coast of Scotland. In the 2011 census it had a generally resident population of 1,283, with a sizable percentage of Roman Catholics. It develops part of the area administered by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar or the Western Isles Council. The island has to do with 12 kilometres from west to east as well as a similar range from north to southern. It exists in between the islands of North Uist and South Uist; it is connected to both by road embankments. Travel to any of the other Hebridean islands, or to the British landmass, is by air or sea. Benbecula Airport on the island has daily trips to Glasgow, Stornoway and also Barra. A direct solution to Inverness was introduced in 2006 however ceased in May 2007. There are no direct ferryboat services from Benbecula to the landmass, but a solution operated by Caledonian MacBrayne from Lochboisdale on South Uist provides a five-hour crossing to Oban on the landmass, whilst another service from Lochmaddy on North Uist supplies a two-hour crossing to Uig on the Inner Hebridean island of Skye, as well as for this reason to the mainland using the Skye Bridge. Ferry services from the islands of Berneray (linked by embankment to North Uist) and also Eriskay (linked to South Uist) link to the various other Outer Hebridean islands of Harris and Barra respectively. There is a thick collection of lochs throughout practically the entire island, as well as mostly all of the island is below 20 metres in altitude.
