Lochwinnoch
Lochwinnoch is a village in the council area and historical area of Renfrewshire in the west main Lowlands of Scotland. Pushing the banks of Castle Semple Loch and also the River Calder, Lochwinnoch is chiefly a residential dorm town serving neighboring metropolitan centres such as Glasgow as well as Paisley. Its population in 2001 was 2628. The Town likewise lends its name to a civil parish of some 50 sq mi (130 km2) of the bordering countryside, including the nearby village of Howwood. The church borders 7 others: Beith, Kilbarchan, Kilbirnie, Kilmacolm, Largs, Neilston and Paisley. Today, Lochwinnoch primarily serves as a domestic town, in addition to a satellite to the major city of Glasgow. In 1972, a number of buildings in the town were brought within a newly specified Lochwinnoch Conservation Area as a location of unique architectural value for planning as well as environment objectives administered by the local authority. Lochwinnoch Primary School, the only institution in the town, commemorated its centenary in 2005. In 2003 it was the centre of a notable unusual big cat sighting scare. Children were kept inside throughout break times, and a cops helicopter was brought in to look for the pet.
