Boldon Colliery
The Boldons are a team of three tiny towns in the north eastern of England - East Boldon, West Boldon and Boldon Colliery - north of Sunderland, eastern of Newcastle as well as south of South Shields as well as Jarrow. They have a population of 13,271. Lying within the historic borders of County Durham, the villages are first recorded in print in 1170. Their names developed from the words "Bold" or "Botl", suggesting a structure, and also "dun", suggesting a hillside. In 1866, job started sinking a pit that started creating coal in 1869, and also was after that known as Boldon New Winning. The town that established nearby in the 1870s came to be known as Boldon Colliery. When the mine was strengthened and also prolonged in the 1910s, more housing to suit the labor force was built to the south of the pit in a location referred to as Boldon New Town. Up until 1974 the location was provided as an urban district of County Durham, however ever since has belonged to the district of South Tyneside. In 1976, the Boldon Colliery Band appeared in episode 13 of the television collection When the Boat Comes In. The mine enclosed 1982 but more work became available when an Asda supermarket opened in 1987. Current developments include Boldon Business Park. Boldon Colliery also has its own multi-screen cinema run by Cineworld. The major senior high school in the area is Boldon School, a professional sports college.
