Ambleside
Ambleside is a community in Cumbria, in North West England. Historically in Westmorland, it is positioned ahead of Windermere, England's biggest natural lake. The community is within the Lake District National Park. Ambleside is administered by South Lakeland District Council and also forms part of the Lakes civil parish yet from 1894 to 1935 it was a different metropolitan district council. Ferries (still referred to as "steamers", although currently diesel powered) run to Bowness-on-Windermere and also Shore providing fine sights of the lake and also bordering mountains. Ambleside is a base for treking, mountaineering and also mountain biking. It has a number of hotels, guest houses, bars as well as dining establishments in addition to stores. Specifically, there are a number of stores marketing equipment for pedestrians as well as mountain climbers in the community. Ambleside is a preferred starting factor for the Fairfield horseshoe, a hillwalking ridge hike. Ambleside is also home to the headquarters of Brathay Exploration Group, a youth charity based just past Clappersgate when driving to Hawkshead. The cd CSI: Ambleside, by Birkenhead-based band Half Male Half Biscuit, is named after the town.
