Heating | Gas | Boiler Replacement in Birmingham
Very good
The home heating system is amongst the most crucial areas of your property. Your boiler gives you heat and hot water throughout the year and the chances are you take little notice of it. Why would you if it's churning out heat during the year with no problem?
But wait, how pricey are your energy expenses? Were you aware that replacing your boiler can save you more than £300 a year on bills due to the enhanced performance? If your boiler is over 10-years old, then the odds are there's a huge saving to be made.
However, investing in a new boiler isn't the least expensive of house improvements. It's not the most expensive either, and you can be looking at between £1,500 and £2,000 for a very efficient combination boiler.
To help overcome this initial expense you could contemplate boiler finance. With finance you'll pay out a monthly fee for however long you choose to cover the price of the boiler. This could be as few as twelve months and certainly helps those who can't afford the total one-off payment.
If your boiler breaks down abruptly too, you might think about boiler finance without the funds easily accessible in the bank. Boiler finance is perfect and although there exists a small interest payment, it's a practical option.
The average cost of replacing your gas boiler is £2,500. Costs differ based on the type and brand of boiler you choose as well as the provider you decide to go with. For example, a small local business may be able to offer a better price than a large national tradesman as they will have fewer overheads. Itâs best to get a range of quotes from different boiler engineers so you can compare prices, reviews and references before going ahead.

If you get the right size boiler for your home and you get it serviced regularly, your boiler could last up to 15 years. It may even last longer than this, but you’ll find that your boiler begins to become less efficient as it gets older. Also, as technology improves, a boiler older than 15 years may not be the most efficient one on the market.
If your boiler is making strange noises or smells, or doesn’t seem to be working properly, it may need replacing. Boilers usually last about 10-15 years. Even if your boiler is working normally, it’s worth replacing when it gets this old. An annual check will establish if there are terminal problems with a boiler that cannot be fixed.
The size of boiler you need will depend on the size of your home, how many radiators and bathrooms you have and how many people live there. The boiler size refers to its output, which is measured in kilowatts (kW), rather than the actual dimensions. Speak to your boiler engineer about which boiler is suitable for you, as if you have more than one bathroom or a lot of people in your home a combi boiler might not suit you. Other boiler types such as system boilers or conventional boilers may be better suited to larger homes because they have bigger outputs.
Re-pressurising your boiler means that you allow more water to enter system via the filling loop. It can be easy to re-pressurise your boiler yourself. Always check your manual, but there are some simple steps you can take to restore pressure to your boiler:
• Switch off your boiler and let it cool completely
• Make sure both ends of your filling loop are attached
• Open both valves to allow cold water into the system – you’ll hear it start to move
• Look out for your pressure gauge to show 1.5 bar
• Close both valves
• Switch your boiler back on
• Undo both ends of your filling loop and remove it. Remember some water might come out, so be ready to catch some spillage!
