South Ockendon
South Ockendon is a small town and Church of England parish in the Thurrock borough and also unitary area in Essex in the East of England, United Kingdom. It lies on the border with Greater London, simply outside the M25 motorway. The location to the north is North Ockendon. South Ockendon village ended up being a place for prefabricated residences (prefabs) fitting bombed-out residents of East London/West Essex in the extremely late 40s. Much of the original post-war building and construction was embarked on by former German prisoners of war. Most of these were knocked down in the late-1960s when a huge Greater London Council estate, Lecaplan "concrete" building houses-- the Flowers' Estate-- was built to change them, once again with pre-fabricated houses, albeit of a remarkable layout. The Lecaplan Kind B form of pre-cast concrete (big panel concrete) terrace is built in rows of 8 buildings to a style by J C Tilley and produced by W. & C. French. In the 1970s the Ford Motor Company factory at Aveley housed Ford's Advanced Vehicle Operations which built cars and trucks such as the RS1600. The plant was wound down slowly from the late 90's but closed completely in 2004, when the last 150 work were shed. The majority of the 150 employees accepted transfers to various other Ford or supplementary websites around Essex. The 'Aveley' plant was situated along as well as west of the train line, beside Ockendon station in the Belhus Ward that part of Ockendon has currently been become brand-new housing estates, with street names after renowned Ford lorries in keeping with the websites history.
