Canonbie
Canonbie (population 390) is a tiny town in Dumfriesshire within the local authority location of Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland, six miles south of Langholm as well as 2 miles north of the Anglo-Scottish border. It gets on the A7 road from Carlisle to Edinburgh, as well as the River Esk flows through it. There are constant referrals in older files to it as Canobie. Canonbie was eternalized in a rhyme by Sir Walter Scott entitled Marmion. A famous section covers the ventures of young Lochinvar. Having actually taken the hand of the new bride of Netherby Hall, about three miles south of Canonbie, the dashing knight is chased via Canonbie, but makes great his escape.
