Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London inside the London Borough of Bexley. It's north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It's separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established just after the sale of land in 1881 to develop the Bexleyheath loop line between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name hails from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a nearby house and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Now, the railway station runs trains between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, via Lewisham and Eltham to the west and Dartford railway station towards the east. There are 12 trains every hour for the duration of the week; on Sundays, there are 4 trains an hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the construction of houses. The Barnehurst Estate was built in 1926 which housed many people.
As well as the railway station, Barnehurst is served by 5 buses, one of which goes to the well-liked Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are limited purchasing or leisure opportunities inside the town, so people often visit surrounding locations working with public transport links or the primary roads.
Barnehurst is home to the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
