Maesteg

Maesteg is a town and community in the ceremonial county of Mid Gamorgan and in Bridgend County Borough, Wales. It is situated at the north end of the Llynfi Valley, near the border with Neath Port Talbot. Similar to the rest of Wales, the English and Welsh languages comprise the town's official languages. Even though a substantial percentage of inhabitants are native English speakers, there is a small part of the community that speak Welsh. Of the 20612 residents noted in the 2011 Census, 11 percent of the town's population speak Welsh. There are substantial contrasts between age groups, with 27.9 per cent of 3 to 15 year olds speaking Welsh, 8.6 per cent of 16 to 64 year olds, and the smallest proportion being amongst the over 65s at 5.3 per cent. The opening of ironworks in the 1820s and 1830s promoted the expansion of the town. Between 1890 and 1925, Maesteg held a global status as a manufacturer of Admiralty-grade steam coal, high quality cooking coal and the leading house coal in South Wales. By the early 1920s, 7000 miners worked in the town. With the decrease of the coal market and the closure of the last pit in 1985, the town is now characterised as being more residential and domiciliary in nature, predominately for the Port Talbot, Bridgend and Cardiff journey to work areas. Formed in 1881, Maesteg Market continues to be a well-attended market, which is located on the ground floor of Maesteg Town Hall and a wide variety of goods are offered. The town is also acknowledged for its strong music and singing custom, being home to several choirs and bands. For all of your home upgrades, make sure to make use of trustworthy professionals in Maesteg to make certain of quality.

FAQs

Is a biomass boiler compatible with my existing central heating system?

Biomass boilers will work with existing central heating systems, presuming this is not decades old, whether they use radiators or under floor heating. A surveyor will check the existing system you have in place before quoting for or recommending a biomass boiler to you.

Do biomass boilers take up lots of space?

Many domestic biomass boilers are no bigger than a standard gas boiler. However, they do require a flue, a feeder and a space to store the fuel. These can be designed to suit many different properties and will fit in lots of homes or a garage or outbuilding.

Can I use a biomass boiler with other forms of heating?

Biomass boilers can be designed to work with other kinds of heating. The most common of these is solar thermal. This is a popular renewable energy pairing. Solar thermal heating will meet your hot water needs during the summer while a biomass boiler can operate as a backup during the winter when solar thermal panels do not perform as well.

Do biomass boilers need lots of maintenance?

Biomass boilers do require some maintenance. Many manufacturers recommend servicing twice a year, although this is often included in the installation cost. Many systems have automatic fuel loading that removes the need to manually load fuel. You will need to remove the ash from the boiler, but this is as easy as emptying a vacuum cleaner.
