Hungerford

Hungerford is a historic market community and civil church in Berkshire, England, 8 miles (13 kilometres) west of Newbury, 9 miles (14 kilometres) east of Marlborough, 27 miles (43 km) northeast of Salisbury and 60 miles (97 kilometres) west of London. The Kennet and Avon Canal goes through the town from the west together with the River Dun, a significant tributary of the River Kennet. The confluence with the Kennet is to the north of the centre whence canal and river both proceed eastern. Amenities consist of colleges, stores, cafés, restaurants, and facilities for the major nationwide sports. The train station is a minor stop on the London to Exeter (through Taunton) Line. The parish was separated into four tithings: Hungerford or Community, Sanden Fee, Eddington with Hidden and also Newtown and Charnham Street. North and South Standen as well as Charnham Street were officially removed parts of Wiltshire up until moved to Berkshire in 1895. Leverton as well as Calcot were transferred to Hungerford church from Chilton Foliat in Wiltshire in 1895.
