Barmouth

Barmouth is a town and neighborhood in the area of Gwynedd, north-western Wales, resting on the tidewater of the River Mawddach and Cardigan Bay. Found in the Historic county of Merionethshire, the Welsh type of the name is derived from "Aber" (tidewater) as well as the river's name, "Mawddach". The English form of the name is a corruption of the earlier Welsh type 'Abermawdd'. The community is offered by Barmouth train station. The town expanded around the shipbuilding industry, and also much more just recently as a seaside hotel. Notable buildings consist of the middle ages Ty Gwyn tower house, the 19th century Ty Crwn roundhouse prison and also St John's Church. William Wordsworth, a visitor to Barmouth in the 19th century, described it thus: "With a fine sea sight in front, the mountains behind, the wonderful estuary running eight miles [13 kilometres] inland, and Cadair Idris within compass of a day's stroll, Barmouth can constantly hold its own against any type of competitor." Dinas Oleu (Citadel of Light), which is located east of the community on the adjoining hillside, was the very first system of land to be donated to the National Trust fund.
