Asbestos removing is a crucial process in UK houses. For development purposes asbestos once was quite popular in the United Kingdom largely for its insulating qualities. But with associated health risks the Government enforced a ban on its use in 2006.

Despite this you will find a huge number of houses with asbestos use in the ceilings and walls. And the consequences of extented exposure can be very detrimental for your health, with two types of lung cancer linked with asbestos.

If you'd like to have asbestos removed from your home, a Health and Safety Executive will carry out an assessment to determine if it is present. If this is the case it has to be essential to have removed, because if you become diagnosed with an asbestos connected illness it will often be too far gone.

For your safety, make certain to use our service to review prices from experts near you. We'll match your requirements with up to four companies so you can be given a totally free quotation for the work and take the issue from there.

Johnstone

Johnstone is a town in the council area and county of Renfrewshire in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. It is situated 3 miles west of Paisley, 12 miles west of the centre of the city of Glasgow and 12 miles north east of Kilwinning. Constituting a section of the biggest conurbation in Scotland, Johnstone rests on the western side of the Greater Glasgow Urban Area. Johnstone was a planned community, which formed around the house of Easter Cochrane, now called Johnstone Castle. Construction commenced in 1782 when the Laird George Houston approved designs for a range of residential seats forming the town centre. The building of 2 similar civic squares, Houstoun Square and Ludovic Square, and the town acquired its parish church by 1794. Coal mining began to bring wealth to Johnstone in the 19th century, with the population increasing to 5600 in 1831. Such a growth in population meant the boost in slum conditions until the development of an area of the town to contain a significant quantity of purpose-built residential estates, happening in the 1930s. Much of Johnstone's history before industrialisation has actually disappeared, with Johnstone Castle coming to be derelict after the last Laird died in 1931. The town's population of 15687 is well-connected to the rest of Scotland due to its distance to effective transport links. A dual carriageway links Johnstone to the M8 motorway for transportation connections to central Scotland, and the town features 2 railway stations with frequent trains to Glasgow Central, Paisley and the Ayrshie Coast. Those hoping to take a trip further afar are 3.5 miles away from Glasgow International Airport and 40 minutes away by train from Prestwick International Airport. For all your house upgrades, make sure to make use of trustworthy specialists in Johnstone to make certain of quality.

FAQs

how to remove asbestos?

How To Remove Asbestos

Asbestos are naturally occurring fibrous material that used to be incorporated into fabrics or mixed with cement for insulation purposes be it electrical or building. As it’s highly dangerous and life threatening if disturbed, the material has been in the UK since 1999, however there are some exceptions. If you happen to reside in a house that has been in existence prior to 1980, then there is a chance your house contains some asbestos. You may discover it in your home when carrying out some DIY tasks or renovation. And once you do, you should waste no time in having it removed as the longer you’re exposed to it, the more life threatening it becomes.

Removal of asbestos is a task you should never try to do by yourself as it becomes harmful when disturbed. In an event whereby you suspect something to be asbestos, do not touch but rather have it isolated and call in a specialist for help. So it’s therefore not recommended to attempt asbestos removal as a DIY project unless you’re are experienced in the techniques below:

✓ Before you get started, it’s crucial to wear the necessary protective gear. These include wearing a respirator, a disposable coverall, disposable rubber gloves, rubber boots as well as safety eye goggles. And ensure that you remove all protective gear clothing and gear before exiting the containment area.

✓ Remove the materials and place in asbestos waste disposal bags

✓ Ensure to remove the asbestos without breaking it up.

✓ Make use of double bag and seal all debris containing asbestos.

✓ Wipe down all surfaces with a damp cloth

✓ Fold and roll the polyethylene sheeting on the floor and dispose them same way as the debris - double bag and seal.

✓ Clean all tools and equipments used.

✓ When done, ensure to wash face, hands and bathe thoroughly.

Do I need to remove asbestos?

Many examples of asbestos will not need removing, for example if it is present in artex that is in good condition. However, if you are carrying out building work on or near the asbestos it should be carefully removed before the building work starts to make sure it is not accidentally disturbed.

Should I use a licensed contractor for asbestos removal?

For some types of asbestos, you are not legally required to use a licensed contractor. However, it’s recommended that you always use one. These contractors will have all the relevant training and knowledge to make sure asbestos is removed safely. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is the licensing body.

can i remove asbestos myself?

Can I Remove Asbestos Myself?

If you’re an individual who owns or control buildings, you’re required by the law to carry out asbestos management and reasonably so. Asbestos is a very dangerous and life threatening material which comes with a host of potential diseases related to exposure and therefore, it’s required to be removed from any building once discovered.

Majority of these diseases are not treated and in the UK alone, there has been about 4,500 deaths per year that has been attributable to asbestos exposure. Hence, this explains why this topic is considered crucial to the legislators.

When it comes to asbestos containing materials removal, this should only be done if necessary and ultimately, only by a person who possesses the skills, knowledge and expertise to make sure that the removal is done safely and to the highest possible standards. Exposure to asbestos poses great health risks. And although when left alone the material can only cause little harm, but the real threat comes when disturbed which implies that asbestos removal is a gravely dangerous process if not handle with skill and care.

Due to this fact, the law has taken a very serious stance that only skilled specialist are allowed to handle the task. Therefore, if you want to know if you can undertake this task by yourself, it’s important to consult your local authority to know the stance of the law in your state. We’d however recommend that you do not attempt this by yourself as the dangers are simply too much. The cost of asbestos containing materials removal can be somewhat costly, but when you look at the threat it poses to both you and your loved ones, you’d realize that it’s worth the price.
