Artificial Grass in Galashiels

Artificial grass is an alternative selection to a natural lawn. It needs very little upkeep because you will not have to mow it or take care of mud in the winter. These days, artificial grass consists of fibres and infills of a mixture of sand and granules of recycled rubber. They've commonly been made use of in commercial situations, but are becoming a lot more common in people’s residences. You are able to lay artificial grass on practically any surface, regardless of whether it's flat or sloping. It is safe for young children and pets, plus it drains like real grass so you will not end up with puddles. It is environmentally friendly as you will not need to water it and there is no requirement to treat it with pesticides or feeds. You should get as much as 20 years out of your artificial grass without any upkeep and hassle. It will not fade or flatten with time, and it will retain its colour right till the end of its life. In case you want a local pro to lay artificial grass for you, just fill in the form and we’ll place you in touch with as much as 4 contractors who will give you a absolutely free, no obligation quote.

Galashiels

Galashiels is a Scottish burgh in Selkirkshire on the Gala Water river. It functions as a notable business hub for the Borders region. Although it has an oceanic climate, its raised position and distance from the sea means that it has cooler winters and relatively warmer summers than the majority of seaside spots, and snow in winter is more frequent. According to the 2011 census, the town has a permanent population of around 14994. In 2015, the Scottish Borders Council acknowledged Galashiels as the capital of the Scottish Borders. Its population increased quickly as a result of the cloth trade with multiple mills. A connection with the town's mill background, the Mill Lade, continues to link the town from near the site of mills at Wheatlands Road, to Netherdale, through Wilderhaugh, Bank Street, the Fountain and alongside the retail development street. The town is especially popular for textile making, and it is also the site of Heriot-Watt University's School of Textiles and Design, Galashiels Academy and one campus of the Borders College, which as of 2009 has actually moved and now accompanies the University. A prominent landmark in Galashiels is the Glasite church, which is in danger of being lost, yet it remains to be standing between the mills and shop buildings on High Street, Botany Lane and Roxburgh Street. It is the home of Gala RFC and Gala Fairydean Rovers, with the football and rugby grounds attached to each other at one end. The football club's main stand was developed in 1963 to designs by Peter Womersley, based in nearby Gattonside, with the cantilevered concrete structure, in the Brutalist style, being preserved as a Category A listed structure. For all of your house upgrades, make certain to make use of dependable professionals in Galashiels to make certain of quality.

FAQs

Can you hoover artificial grass?
While you might see some people hoovering their artificial grass, it’s not recommended. Using a household vacuum cleaner on your artificial grass could suck up and remove the blades of grass, creating patches and making it look as bad as a balding natural lawn. Also, artificial grass blades are made from tough plastics like nylon and polyurethane. The blades could easily clog up your hoover and damage it, so it’s best to steer clear of using it to clean your artificial turf. What can I use instead of a vacuum cleaner? A good old rake or broom can get rid of leaves and debris from your artificial grass, but you may miss smaller pieces like pet hair or sand and gravel. If you have a leaf blower, you can use this on a low setting – but be careful as you could blow away the sand infill that keep your artificial lawn looking springy and fresh. Luckily, there are artificial lawn power brooms available to buy, and this could be a good option over hoovering your artificial grass. They are electrically powered brushes that push away dirt rather than sucking it up, and they can even plump your lawn to keep it looking at its best. Even if you don’t hoover your artificial grass, it’s still likely that over time some sand infill will get carried away. To keep your lawn bouncy, ask your installer to top up the sand every now and again or have a go at doing it yourself.
Does artifical grass get hot?

On a hot summer’s day, we often seek our garden lawn as a cooling place to sit and get some relief from the sun. However, since artificial grass is made from plastic, lots of people ask whether it gets hot, or whether it stays like natural grass. The answer is, it’s somewhere in between.

Of course, we all know to stay in the shade in midday sun and this is when your artificial grass will be at its hottest. Unless it is an extremely hot say and your lawn is in direct sunlight, you should still be able to walk on your artificial grass. The best thing to do is test it using the back of your hand before anyone walks over it with bare feet or children go to play on it.

In the shade, artificial grass should always maintain a cool temperature, although it will never have that refreshing feel of cold grass on a hot day. It will also cool down extremely quickly as the day goes on, so if your grass does get too hot it shouldn’t be unusable for too long.

Artificial grass has to meet high safety standards and most are UV stabilised, which means that they can withstand high temperatures without melting or getting extremely hot. It’s worth remembering that hot countries like Dubai use artificial grass, so the occasional hot day in a British summer should be enough for artificial grass to handle!

How to cut artificial grass?
When you’re laying artificial grass, it’s pretty hard to not get some wastage somewhere. Whether you’re laying it up against a hard edge like decking or a patio or you’re fitting the artificial grass right up to a fence or wall, you’re probably going to have to cut it somewhere. So how do you do it without damaging the artificial grass?
  1. If you’re cutting artificial grass at a fence or wall, fold over the turf so you can see where the backing material meets the edge.
  2. Using a very sharp pen knife, cut the backing material into the perimeter, using it to guide the blade.
  3. Push the artificial grass back against fence or wall and check that you’ve cut away enough. It’s always best to err on the side of caution and cut less to begin with.
  4. When you’re happy, brush the pile to make it look natural.
Cutting up to a patio or decking If you’re installing artificial grass up to a patio or garden edge, you can use a pen knife to cut away just the outer tuft and the factory edge – that's the part of the backing material with no blades of grass attached to it. Cutting artificial grass to prepare for a seam If you’re cutting a piece of artificial grass to make a seam to join it to another piece, use your pen knife to cut away the outer 3 tufts and the factory edge. Top tip: Make sure you use a good quality, new and sharp blade to cut your artificial grass to get a nice clean cut and avoid fraying the edges of the backing material.
How to clean artificial grass?
Choosing artificial grass instead of natural turf can save you a lot of time on garden maintenance. However, even artificial grass needs the odd clean every now and then to ensure it stays looking good and lasts a long time, so here are some top tips. Regular maintenance There are several ways to keep your grass in good condition. Try brushing your grass with a broom or plastic rake regularly to dislodge any dirt or debris. You could also use a leaf blower to remove any leaves, or a low-pressure hose to get rid of wetter dirt. Hopefully the weed membrane under the artificial grass will do its job, but if you do get any weeds you can use a water-based moss and weed killer – make sure the maximum pH is 8. When the weeds have died off, remove them as you would with any leaves or debris. Cleaning stains on your artificial grass If you spill a drink on your artificial grass, grab a paper towel and dab at it rather than rubbing it, as this will just work the stain into your grass. Rinse it with some water if necessary. If you notice a stain that’s been there for a while, mix a teaspoon of detergent with a pint of water in a bucket. Using a soft cloth or sponge, rub the solution onto the stain until it’s gone, and rinse with clean water. If the stain is sticky, water might not be enough to get rid of it. Try using a toothbrush to brush away the residue.
