Artificial Grass in Dinas Powys

Artificial grass is an alternative option to a natural lawn. It demands very little upkeep since you won’t need to mow it or deal with mud in the winter. These days, artificial grass is comprised of fibres and infills of a mixture of sand and granules of recycled rubber. They have generally been utilised in commercial situations, however they are becoming more and more preferred in people’s properties. It is possible to lay artificial grass on virtually any surface, regardless of whether it is flat or sloping. It is safe for young children and pets, and it also drains like real grass so you will not end up with puddles. It’s environmentally friendly as you won’t need to water it and there is no need to treat it with pesticides or feeds. You should get as much as 20 years out of your artificial grass with no upkeep and hassle. It will not fade or flatten as time passes, and it will retain its colour right until the end of its life. Should you require a local pro to lay artificial grass for you, just fill out the form and we’ll place you in contact with up to four contractors who will provide you with a cost-free, no obligation quote.

Dinas Powys

Dinas Powys is a huge town as well as a community in the Vale of Glamorgan in South Wales which takes its name from the old Welsh for stronghold, (Dinas) as well as pagus,(Powys) the Latin word for pagan. The literal definition, for that reason, being, "Pagan Stronghold", describing Dinas Powys hillfort that dates from the Iron Age. The town is 5.6 miles (9.0 kilometres) south-west of the centre of Cardiff and also conveniently positioned on the A4055 Cardiff to Barry main road. It is typically considered as a pleasant dorm village for Cardiff's business and market travelers considering that the city has actually broadened with prevalent growth around the Cardiff Bay area. In spite of the addition of a number of housing developments over the past fifty years, the old town centre of Dinas Powys still has a mostly unspoiled and nearly rural feel, retaining a huge village common as well as a typical town centre complete with a post office and also a series of small independent stores, hostelries, dining establishments and neighborhood facilities. On top of that there are shops, garages, little supermarkets, Pharmacy and also a Veterinarians on the main Cardiff Roadway and a selection of shops on the Murch estate consisting of a post office. The Health and wellness Centre containing the physicians and Murch drug store moved in April 2017 to the new Medical centre at the top of Murch Road, on the website of the old St Cyres, Dinas Powys site. According to current electoral rolls the population remains in the area of 8,800. This establishes the village as the 5th biggest settlement in the Vale of Glamorgan and larger than numerous chartered towns in the UK.

FAQs

How to lay artificial grass on concrete?

Laying artificial grass on concrete needs a slightly different approach to if you’re installing it over soil. The good news is that it’s much less labour intensive, as you don’t need to do any digging or levelling.

Ideally, your concrete base should be in good condition, and have an adequate fall on it to provide efficient drainage. If it doesn’t, you might have to do some repair work or drill some drainage holes first.

When you’re ready to start, begin by cleaning your concrete base. Use a jet wash or a hose and brush to dislodge and disperse any dirt or plant growth. Once it’s clean, leave it to dry completely.

Then, you need to fit an underlay - usually it’s made of foam. This will provide padding to make your artificial grass softer and more comfortable to walk on. It will also help to level out any slopes on uneven parts on the concrete. Make sure it’s a good-quality underlay that’s permeable – if it’s not, you could end up with damp artificial grass and nasty smells as it will hold moisture. Roll out the underlay and cut it to shape, taping any separate sections together.

Next, use an adhesive to secure the underlay to your concrete. Make sure you leave gaps in the adhesive to allow water to drain off easily. Leave the glue to dry, then you can start laying your grass.

Roll out your grass like you did with your underlay, cutting it to shape and joining any separate sections together with artificial grass tape. Then glue the grass to the underlay. Leave it dry, give the grass a brush, and it’ll be ready to use!

How to clean artificial grass?
Choosing artificial grass instead of natural turf can save you a lot of time on garden maintenance. However, even artificial grass needs the odd clean every now and then to ensure it stays looking good and lasts a long time, so here are some top tips. Regular maintenance There are several ways to keep your grass in good condition. Try brushing your grass with a broom or plastic rake regularly to dislodge any dirt or debris. You could also use a leaf blower to remove any leaves, or a low-pressure hose to get rid of wetter dirt. Hopefully the weed membrane under the artificial grass will do its job, but if you do get any weeds you can use a water-based moss and weed killer – make sure the maximum pH is 8. When the weeds have died off, remove them as you would with any leaves or debris. Cleaning stains on your artificial grass If you spill a drink on your artificial grass, grab a paper towel and dab at it rather than rubbing it, as this will just work the stain into your grass. Rinse it with some water if necessary. If you notice a stain that’s been there for a while, mix a teaspoon of detergent with a pint of water in a bucket. Using a soft cloth or sponge, rub the solution onto the stain until it’s gone, and rinse with clean water. If the stain is sticky, water might not be enough to get rid of it. Try using a toothbrush to brush away the residue.
How to cut artificial grass?
When you’re laying artificial grass, it’s pretty hard to not get some wastage somewhere. Whether you’re laying it up against a hard edge like decking or a patio or you’re fitting the artificial grass right up to a fence or wall, you’re probably going to have to cut it somewhere. So how do you do it without damaging the artificial grass?
  1. If you’re cutting artificial grass at a fence or wall, fold over the turf so you can see where the backing material meets the edge.
  2. Using a very sharp pen knife, cut the backing material into the perimeter, using it to guide the blade.
  3. Push the artificial grass back against fence or wall and check that you’ve cut away enough. It’s always best to err on the side of caution and cut less to begin with.
  4. When you’re happy, brush the pile to make it look natural.
Cutting up to a patio or decking If you’re installing artificial grass up to a patio or garden edge, you can use a pen knife to cut away just the outer tuft and the factory edge – that's the part of the backing material with no blades of grass attached to it. Cutting artificial grass to prepare for a seam If you’re cutting a piece of artificial grass to make a seam to join it to another piece, use your pen knife to cut away the outer 3 tufts and the factory edge. Top tip: Make sure you use a good quality, new and sharp blade to cut your artificial grass to get a nice clean cut and avoid fraying the edges of the backing material.
How long does artificial grass last?
How long your artificial grass will last depends on its quality and how well you look after it. Most types of artificial grass should last at least 10 years. But if you buy high-quality grass and take good care of it, it could stay looking good for up to 20 years. There are a few things that impact how long your artificial grass lasts:
  • Blade material Artificial grass is made up of lots of individual blades, just like real grass. The blades are made of plastic and are sewn to a backing material. To help keep your artificial grass looking great for longer, a blend of blades made from nylon and polyethylene are best. Nylon is extremely resilient, but isn’t very comfy to walk on, so adding the polyethylene which is still very strong helps to keep it feeling nice underfoot.
  • Backing material The backing material holds all the artificial grass blades together. It’s made of two layers: a membrane that the grass is attached to, and a section that’s usually made of latex or polyurethane and bonds everything together. When you’re choosing your artificial grass, ask for samples – try to pull away the backing material. If it comes apart easily, steer clear of that type of grass.
  • The artificial grass’ use The lifespan of your artificial grass will depend on how much traffic it gets. It’s best to invest in strong nylon or nylon-blend turfs where it’s going to get walked on regularly, such as on a pathway to a door. Of course, if the artificial grass is more ornamental, a lower-quality product will last a long time.
  • Good installation One of the main things that will help your artificial grass last a long time is effective installation. If artificial grass is laid badly, it might suffer from poor drainage and weeds which will reduce its lifespan. It’s always best to get your artificial grass installed by a professional since they’re trained in fitting it to a high standard.
