In 1972, a number of buildings in the village were brought within a recently specified Lochwinnoch Conservation Area as an area of unique architectural significance for preparation and atmosphere purposes administered by the local authority. Lochwinnoch Primary School, the only school in the village, celebrated its centenary in 2005. In 2003 it was the centre of a significant unusual big cat discovery scare. Youngsters were kept inside throughout break times, as well as a cops helicopter was generated to search for the animal.
